Great Job, Dad!

Hi People!

Something to know about my dad – He doesn’t cook… Besides pancakes, he doesn’t really know how to cook anything else… But, today, he surprised us (my family and I). Guess what he cooked?

You’ll prolly never guess… it’s Sarawak Laska… I don’t like spicy stuff, so I didn’t try any of it, but according to my mom and brother, IT. WAS. GOOD… My mom who usually eats a little more than a pigeon ate an entire bowl… So, based on that observation, it must be pretty good... ^^

Here are some pics I got…

That's all :)

Project 16 - Baking Recipe #2 - Smore Cupcakes

Yay! I got another baking-thingy down! This time, it’s cupcakes! Specifically, Smores Cupcakes!!! I had sooo much fun baking it…
Here's what it looked like before it went into the oven. :)

But it didn’t turn out quite right… The marshmallow kinda floated up too high and got BURNT… >< Like that...

But, the good thing about marshmallows is that whatever that’s burnt sticks together… So I just peel the burnt part right off!!! Yippee!
After that, I just piped some melted marshmallow on the top and TADA!
My mom doesn't really fancy sweet stuff, so she hardly ate any... But she said the cupcake part was good. Dad liked it, and my brothers... Wow, I had to tear them from my marshmallow icing... haha. :)
Ok, see ya round! bye!

Christmas #2

This is, as you can most prolly tell, is another Christmas-ish post...

I am currently...

Making a list of prezzie for friends...
Feeling amazed at the amount of friends I have...
Slightly unnerved at the daunting task of selecting prezzies from each one of them...
A wee bit sad thinking about the amount of $$ I have to spend...
Of course, feeling blessed at knowing making new friends and growing closer to the old ones...
Making my Christmas wish-list...
Making "business" deals with my brothers regarding the issue of Christmas presents... (lol)
Surfing the web for Christmas themed goodies to bake...
Gazing in wonder at the Christmas tree... (weird, I know, but it's true... ^^)
Singing Christmas carols at the top of my lungs...
And banging them out on the piano...

And a whole lotta other stuffz....

How are you preparing for the coming festive season?

tHaNkS FoR sToPpInG bY!!!

Christmas #1

It's me again... Duh, who else posts here???

Anyways, IT'S CHRISTMAS!!! In like a month!!!

Looking forward to the pretty Christmas displays...
Looking forward to the joys of giving...
Looking forward to singing my favourite Christmas carols...
Looking forward to laughing with friends...
Looking forward to baking all sorts of Christmas goodies...
Looking forward to choosing prezzies...
Looking forward to staying up late on Christmas Eve and counting down to Christmas day...

Most importantly, looking forward to remembering that Christ came down to earth to die for our sins... and to feeling God's undying love for me... <3

Oh, BTW, we got our Christmas tree up on Sunday... ^^
Have you got yours up yet?
Merry X'mas!
yes, im aware that im a month early...

Just thinking...

You know sth?

I'm just thinking about my baking list and I realised that I'm running out of "easy" things to bake... I mean... I've baked a butter cake, cheese cakes, moist cookies, crunchy cookies, pancakes... etc etc...

I think imma gonna make cupcakes next...

Oh!! And in honor of the 50th anniversary of Dr. Who, I will attempt, I said attempt, to make a TARDIS... probably out of gingerbread... y'know like a ginger bread house, minus the white snow icing and candy canes... Ya...

SIDE NOTE: I DO NOT EVEN WATCH DR. WHO, BUT WHO CARES RIGHT... of course dr. WHO cares... *crickets chirping as I re-think what I've just wrote* Now, that statement was just awkward in that context... lol

AnyWHO, (rrriiight... seriously?) I'm done thinking for now...

And may the gummies be ever present for your consumption... >.<lll

Right, that was random...

Macaroons Attempt #2

I baked MACAROONZ today… This time, they turned out soooo much better!!! J

Here’s a pic...
I know macaroons aren't supposed to have the little pointy thing on the top... but that's how they turned out... so yeah :)

I felt so encouraged and motivated by the amazing turn out of the macaroons that I went the extra mile and made some butter cream… I sandwiched the butter cream in between two macaroons and TADA!!!! The end result was sweet… (pun intended…) Right, that was lame… but who cares…
Here's an "artistic" shot of them macaroonz...
And here they are, nice and snug, in their little box...
Okay… that’s all for now J

Thanks for stopping by!

Project 16 - Baking Recipe #1 - French Macaroons

Ello Ello!

So sorry for not blogging recently… I fell ill, had tons of work to catch up on, and a lotta other stuff… ><

But I’ve got good news… As you most prolly already may have guessed, I have accomplished another thing on my Project 16 list! Woot woot!

This time, it’s BAKING! I absolutely, positively L<3VE baking… I dun really know why and when I started enjoying it so much… But that’s beside the point.

I baked….

Wait for it, wait for it….

Specifically, French Macaroons. Yay!!! Have you evah eaten one of those? If you haven’t, then you must be some poor deprived soul floating somewhere out there in the wilderness… Just kidding… I totally understand if you’ve never eaten a macaroon before… Cos, y’know why? My dad and my mom have never ever ever ever eaten a macaroon before… (They didn’t even know what it was or that it even existed :P)

Anyways… Here’s a pic…

I baked 2 batches… The first one came out burnt… ><

And the second batch came out slightly under-done

BUT!!! They were both edible… and my Family was such a great sport and bravely taste tested it… Honestly, IT. WAS. AH. MAY. ZING…

Yesh, it was burnt and under-cook, but it tasted great nonetheless. So yay for that…

Being the confident and ever so perfect me (Yeah right, watev), I just had to get it right… So I went to the closest baking store and bought a whole buncha stuffz I needed to bake another round of macaroonz!!!

Okay… that’s it J Bai

P.S. - Oh, I know a “1 Word – Many Thoughts” post is long overdue… but please be kind and hang tight a while more… I’ll get one up soon, I PROMISE!!!

Project 16 - DIY Project #2 - Door Hanger! :D

Guys! I got another DIY thing-a-ma-gic done! But I have to say, it’s kinda lame… As in I wanna call it a DIY PROJECT but to be totally, frankly honest, I don’t think it is… Cos it’s really very simple… But that’s ok, right? Cos it’s mai project and mai goal, so I

get to decide what’s good and what ain’t. Ok, that’s horribly self-centered… :P

For this project, I did this…

I’m not entirely sure what it’s called… It’s the… um… y’know, that ‘welcome’ or ‘do not disturb’ thingies you hang outside on the door handle… Yeah… those things… :P

Here’s the ‘how-to’:

1.      Cut a long strip of felt-ish thingy of your desired color and folded it to the desired size of the flower.

2.      Cut out the flower shape.

3.      Arrange the layers of the flower and staple it onto a card and scrunch it up.

4.      Punch a hole on the top part of the card and loop a piece of pretty ribbon through.

5.      (Optional) Write something on it [I wrote “hello”] and TA-DA!!! You got it!!! :D

I know it’s not that DIY-ish, but it’s okay… You can actually make it into a card and write a note on the opposite side. Or a book mark, just that you have to flatten the flower whenever you close the book… unless you want to crush it in between the pages of the book…That works too…

See you ‘round,

Natasha ~

p.s. – I’m so lovin’ this font ^ :D

1 Word - Many Thoughts ~ 002

I sooo wanted to post this yesterday... but I was too busy... Sorry! Well, here it is! Enjoy! :)
1 wordMany Thoughts

1.A series of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep.

2. A daydream; a reverie.

3. A state of abstraction; a trance.

4. A wild fancy or hope.

5. A condition or achievement that is longed for; an aspiration.

6. One that is exceptionally gratifying, excellent, or beautiful.

Psychologist’s Definition… ^^

Dreams are successions of images, ideas, emotion, and sensations that occur involuntarily in the mind especially during stage five or Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep. The name “Rapid Eye Movement” was given to this stage of sleep obviously because during this stage of sleep, the eyes move rapidly. (DUH!) Some recent studies have shown that dreams can also occur during the other stages of sleep. Dreams actually occur because the of increased brain activity. During REM sleep the brain produces alpha waves (which are the level of our brain waves when we are awake) or sometimes even higher, beta waves (brain waves during stressful situations or situations that require strong mental concentration). Ok, I think I should stop here…

Which definition of the word “dream” comes to your mind first? Why do people dream? Why do you think we dream of what we dream of? Is there a reason for dreams? Are dreams necessary? How often do you dream? Do you remember your dreams? Do you daydream often? If so, about what? To you, what would be a dream (e.g. stuffing your face with an endless supply of chocolate… ^^)? What are your dreams? What’s your wildest dream? (And now, psychology student mode…) All the voluntary muscles of the body are paralysed during REM sleep, but why are our eyes still moving? Depression is link to too much time spent in REM sleep, is there a medicine that decreases REM sleep? Why do we forget our dreams so easily? Are nightmares dreams gone wrong? (Some scientists believe that dreams function to “predict the future.” Dreams put us in situations that have yet to occur and that sometimes have a possibility of happening… [That’s why some people experience déjà vus] So, in other words, my question is - are nightmares dreams that are headed down the “worst case scenarios possible” path? ) Studies show that people can control what they want to dream of, have you ever dreamt of something that you wanted to dream of? Other studies show that people can control what happens in a dream while dreaming… how true is that?
Dreams – Strange, mysterious, stressful, nightmarish, hopeless, distant, confusing, traumatic…
Dreams – Cool, sweet, believable, achievable, understandable, inspiring, hopeful…
Here’s something I found that’s pretty true J
So, here’s the challenge…

Make someone’s dream come true. It could be something small, like buying a long-desired gift, or something HUGE like offering to pay for a person's college fees when he/she goes overseas to study… :P

Project 16 - Scrapbook Cards #1 & 2

Hey There!

Woot woot! I got another two things on my project list done! This time, it’s scrapbook cards… Sadly, they’re not as scrapbook-ish I wanted them to be… but that’s okay ^^ Simple is pretty too J They’re both thank you cards, so yeah…

Card #1
Card #2

Personally I <3 the one with the buttons… the color combi is sooo sweet ^^ It kinda reminds me of a cute and bubbly little girl. hehe

The one with the staples is less playful, but still fun. The colors go well together, especially the aqua-turquoise-ish blue and the warm orange. Serious yet fun! <3 it!

See ya!

Project 16 - DIY Project #1 - Colored Sand

Remember one of the things on my Project 16 list was do eight DIY projects? Well, I got one done today. J

I got some of these markers and couldn’t figure out how to store them… I wanted something cool and creative plus kinda disply-ish (as I don’t use markers very often) and then… “AHA!” I got it! I “made” a marker holder. It’s  just a glass container with some colored sand thing (salt actually, as you will find out) with a fun quote and some decorations in the front.
:) Here's what it looks like...
Here’s what I did for the “sand”:

1.      Prepare a glass container, white finely ground salt (quite a lot, I realized), and some chalk of different colors.

2.      Stir the salt around in a cup with a piece of chalk. The salt will (more or less) magically change its color. :P

3.      Pour the colored salt into the glass container

4.      Repeat the above step with chalks of different colors and different amounts of salt.

Tip: You can layer the salt unevenly giving it a more artistic look. J

I used five colors, blue, pink, green, yellow, and very light orange... It didn't show up well in the pic :(
For the front decoration and quote…

I just wrote the quote, “Life is meant to be colorful” with a permanent marker and used nail polish to put random dots around to make it more colorful. Personally, I really think the quote went amazingly well with the salt and the markers. Doncha think so too?

Something you really need to know: Make a mistake while writing? No problem! Just wipe it off with some nail polish remover. I was sooo happy ‘bout this cos I made tons of mistakes while writing the quote… XD

Stick your markers in and voilà, you’ve got it! Woot woot!

Hope you enjoyed this post, cos I did :P

Oh and tell me if you actually try it out… J

New Series :: 1 Word - Many Thoughts

Hello World!!!

I’ve decided to start this series thingy, called “1 word – Many thoughts”. For each of this kind of post, I would:

·         Include the simple and neutral definition of the word

·         Ask a few thought-provoking/random questions

·         Jot down a few positive and negative adjectives, kinda like showing both sides of a coin

·         Attach a poem, quote, or picture that applies to or is about the topic of the post.

·         And finally, end with a challenge.

You might be wondering the reason behind this series… Well, I just felt like taking something simple and commonly overlooked and turning it into an object for consideration. You know how we tend to overlook certain things after getting used to them. I just thought that maybe I should slow down and take these simple objects, abstract or tangible, and make them meaningful in some way... and at the same time sharing them with you. Some topics will probably be more ‘chim’ than others. I might not be making sense right now, but anyways…

I hope you peoplez will enjoy more of this kinds of posts.

1 word Many thoughts

Definition: A single meaningful element of speech or writing, used with others (or sometimes alone) to form a sentence and typically shown with a space on either side when written of printed.

Have you ever wondered what made you say what you said? Have you ever regretted saying something seconds after it leaves your lips? Have you ever wished you could take it back, erase the memory, and dry the tears? How you ever wanted to say something, but never had the guts too? Or how about the time when you were lost for words at the moment, and found the right one a little too late? Have you ever wondered why the sound for ‘f’ is just blowing between your teeth and lower lip? And why ‘ph’ and ‘gh’ sounds just like ‘f’?

Words –  A powerful, strong, deadly, hurtful, sharp, piercing, callused, abusive, negative, slanderous, insulting, offensive weapon.

Words – A powerful, strong, helpful, encouraging, hopeful, inspiring, reassuring, positive, informative, uplifting, calming, comforting tool.

Words can be used in these two ways… Which do you use more? Which do you want used towards you?

Here’s a poem I found about words.

Drop a pebble in the water:
just a splash, and it is gone;
But there's half-a-hundred ripples

ircling on and on and on,
Spreading, spreading from the center,

flowing on out to the sea.
And there is no way of telling

where the end is going to be.

Drop a pebble in the water:
in a minute you forget,
But there's little waves a-flowing,

and there's ripples circling yet,
And those little waves a-flowing

to a great big wave have grown;
You've disturbed a mighty river

just by dropping in a stone.

Drop an unkind word, or careless:
in a minute it is gone;
But there's half-a-hundred ripples

circling on and on and on.
They keep spreading, spreading, spreading

from the center as they go,
And there is no way to stop them,

once you've started them to flow.

Drop an unkind word, or careless:
in a minute you forget;
But there's little waves a-flowing,

and there's ripples circling yet,
And perhaps in some sad heart

a mighty wave of tears you've stirred,
And disturbed a life was happy

ere you dropped that unkind word.

Drop a word of cheer and kindness:
just a flash and it is gone;
But there's half-a-hundred ripples

circling on and on and on,
Bearing hope and joy and comfort

on each splashing, dashing wave
Till you wouldn't believe the volume

of the one kind word you gave.

Drop a word of cheer and kindness:
in a minute you forget;
But there's gladness still a-swelling,

and there's joy circling yet,
And you've rolled a wave of comfort

whose sweet music can be heard
Over miles and miles of water

just by dropping one kind word.

~By James W. Foley~

Isn’t that true? I really love this poem. I heard a friend recite it ages ago and I have never forgotten the title. Words are really that incredible. We can use them to build up and to tear down. By saying a kind words, you can totally make someone’s day. By dropping a single unkind word, you can rent a hole in someone heart…

So here’s the challenge…

Make someone’s today, just by saying something encouraging, hopeful, helpful, positive, supportive, and maybe even inspiring.
